Karnival Krewe de Louisiane - An Amalfi Affair: Braving the Battle Beneath the Bougainvillea

Branding, Graphic Design, and Event Planning

Date

2025 - 2026

Location

Baton Rouge, Louisiana

As a volunteer, community member, and longtime supporter of Karnival Krewe de Louisiane, the line between my creative work and volunteering has always been a fine one. Over the years, I have been a member, served on the Board of Directors, supported the Krewe’s website and social media, and volunteered with an organization whose mission I hold incredibly close to my heart.

The result was An Amalfi Affair: Braving the Battle Beneath the Bougainvillea, a theme inspired by the beauty, color, and romance of the Amalfi Coast while still keeping Karnival Krewe de Louisiane’s mission at the center.

The visual identity was built around vibrant bougainvillea, lemons and citrus, Mediterranean blue and white tilework, classical Italian-inspired details, greenery, and a bold coastal color palette. The bougainvillea became especially important to the concept, serving as both a recognizable part of the Amalfi aesthetic and a symbol of resilience, strength, and continuing to bloom through difficult circumstances.

Working alongside Krewe leadership, volunteers, and my team at Torapath, I helped develop the primary logo and then expanded that concept into a full creative system that could live across the entire year. The branding was carried through social media graphics, email marketing, website assets, event invitations, traditional marketing materials, debutante and Royal Court materials, event signage, table and décor elements, merchandise, and supporting event graphics.

The portfolio pieces shown here highlight how that identity evolved across multiple applications. They include the Royal Coronation Social + Auction invitation and supporting illustrated invitation suite, the Debutante Brunch invitation, personalized Debutante graphics, the Krewe’s Amalfi-inspired Mahjong Night promotional graphic and custom Mahjong mat, event branding and décor used throughout the Ball, and custom apparel featuring the annual artwork.

One of the most exciting extensions of the brand was translating the artwork into merchandise. The annual design was adapted for apparel for the Krewe community, including custom pieces for the Royal Court and other members of the organization. We also had the opportunity to work with Queen of Sparkles and Jaime Odom to bring the artwork to life in a completely different medium, transforming the illustration into a detailed sequin sweatshirt that still felt unmistakably connected to the original identity.

From digital graphics to printed invitations, personalized debutante pieces, custom game materials, apparel, tablescapes, and Ball décor, the goal was for every touchpoint to feel like it belonged to the same world. What began as one event theme ultimately became a cohesive yearlong brand experience that celebrated the beauty and escapism of the Amalfi Coast while continuing to reinforce the purpose behind the Krewe: supporting the fight against cancer in Louisiana.
